TearCare Treatment for Dry Eye
The Landings Eye Care offers TearCare for the treatment of Dry Eye Disease caused by obstructive Meibomian Gland Disease (MGD). Learn more below.
What is meibomian gland disease?
Obstructive meibomian gland disease (MGD) is the leading cause of dry eye disease. It occurs when the tiny oil glands that line the eyelids become clogged.
As obstructive MGD progresses, less and less oil reaches the surface of the eye resulting in burning, itchy, and irritated eyes. Eyes can become red and swollen, and patients can struggle with contact lens use.
How does the TearCare® System help?
The goal of the TearCare® System is to clear the obstructed meibomian glands that cause dry eye disease and restore normal gland function.
TearCare is an effective and easy procedure. The TearCare device is placed comfortably against the patients’ eyelids. Heat is gently applied to liquefy the stagnant oils in the meibomian glands of your eye.
After about 15 minutes of targeted heat, the oils are softened so that our team can remove the oils with specialized forceps.
Vision will not be affected. Most patients should be able to perform normal activities for the rest of the day.
